This is how we work.

The course consists of 5 training sessions, each of which deals with an important topic about letting go of stuttering. Each training consists of underlying theory and practical exercises to put the letting go into actual practice.

There are 3 weeks between each training. This way you have enough time to process the information and practice at home with the exercises that you receive. Each training builds on the previous one, so that the course ultimately forms one coherent whole.

We keep in touch between training sessions. We occasionally ask for an update from the ‘students’, so that we can adapt the course to the group. Furthermore, you can always contact us with your questions during the course. If the free e-mail service is not sufficient, we can meet personally via Skype.

The content of the course.

Below we will tell you about the topics covered in the various training sessions. It is of course difficult to explain exactly what to expect, that would result in an amount of pages that we would rather spare you.

Session 1: the first step out of stuttering

Without knowing exactly what the problem is, it becomes quite difficult to solve that problem. That is why we start the course with an explanation of what stuttering actually is. The answer to stuttering will also become clear from that story: letting go. At the end of this session we will send you your first exercise so you can put the letting go into practice.

Session 2: the key to fluency

After you have practised for a number of weeks and have experienced a few things, we´ll dive a bit deeper into the letting go. We discuss the key role of pelvic breathing, “centering” and “grounding” properly, with which you can let go of everything that is in the way of your fluent speech.

Session 3: the unexpected stutter

Sometimes stuttering seems to “come out of nowhere,” as if there is no apparent reason for it. That’s a shame, because the sooner you feel a stutter coming, the sooner you can intervene (read: let go). That is why we take a look behind the curtain in session 3 and discuss the hidden causes of stuttering.

Session 4: the psychology behind stuttering

Something you’re probably familiar with: in one situation you stutter more than in another. In the fourth session, we will discuss why stuttering is triggered more strongly in certain situations and how we can become free of unconscious psychological patterns that influence our speech.

Session 5: letting go in daily life + how to continue

In the last training we discuss what letting go in daily life looks like. We will discuss the concept of the comfort zone and how you can broaden it so that ultimately you can express yourself in every situation with ease and spontaneity. We conclude the course with a preview of the steps to come and how we can help you with that.

About the exercises.

Only practice makes perfect, you will hear us say it more often. In practice, the breath is central, because it is the key to fluency. After the meetings you will receive audio recordings of the exercises so that you can practice at home.

The right way of breathing is the basis for letting go of stuttering, because it allows you to let go of anything that is in the way of your fluent speech. The result is “speaking like yourself”, without having to learn speech techniques or other kinds of “mannerisms”.

We also won’t send you out to the streets for “difficult” exercises, no one needs to be pushed out of his or her comfort zone. ‘Letting go’ forms a calm and relaxed working on your speech, anything more than that is unnecessary.

Because you probably have enough challenges in your daily life as it is, you don’t have to go look for them. With what you learn in the recordings at home, the letting go can continue throughout the day and your fluency can, in principle, increase.

After the course.

When the course is over, you know what stuttering is, where it comes from, how to work on it, you have a lot of exercises in your pocket and you may have already experienced some spontaneous, effortless, fluent moments that you can build on.

At this point you can choose to go your own way with what you have received. Or you can learn to let go of your stutter more through individual sessions, with more personal tailored exercises and information. Because the deeper you let go, the smoother the speaking becomes.

We warmly recommend the latter, because figuring out the way out of stuttering ‘on your own’ is full of pitfalls and misconceptions, which makes it easily possible that you don’t experience the development that you could, or you get yourself further away from home while you just were starting to move in the right direction.
